Abiola Akilla, who had no driving licence or insurance, was pulled over by PC Caroline Green, knocked her down ‘and never looked back’ as she left her lying seriously injured on the road.

The 51-year-old nurse who ran over the police officer, was handed a 30-months jail sentence.

The officer told the court that she went to the front of the vehicle to note down the car’s registration number when Akilla reversed back onto the road, despite being told to stay put.

As she called on the radio for help Akilla ‘drove over the top’ of her and left the scene. ‘I was screaming in pain. She was so close to my head,’ she said.

The hit-and-run, which took place in Grays, Essex, in October 2020, left PC Green with five broken ribs as well as leg and arm injuries and cuts and bruises near her head.

The mum-of-one was airlifted to Royal London Hospital, where she stayed for a week. She now fears she may never return to front-line duties because of PTSD.

Narrating the horrific incident, PC Green said:

‘Her front wheel went over my ankle, then she drove up my leg. I was in so much pain I thought she’d snapped my leg.

‘I fell back and cracked my head on the concrete and she drove over my ribs and my right shoulder.

‘I had a crushing feeling all over my body and was screaming in pain.

‘She was so close to my head, and in between the first and second wheels going over me I managed to get into a foetal position. Then the back wheel went over my legs, pelvis and stomach.’

Harrowing body cam footage was shown to the judge of the moment the vehicle went over PC Green’s body. Akilla entered the dock crying, but showed little reaction when the film was played.

The defendant, who told Basildon crown court it was a ‘moment of madness’, also received a six-year driving ban as well as the prison.

Operatives of the Rapid Response Squad (RRS) on April 5, 2022 arrested three robbery suspects and recovered a beretta pistol and four rounds of ammunition at Toyota bus-stop near Oshodi, Lagos.

The prompt arrest of the traffic robbers followed a tip-off from civic-minded Lagosians to the RRS officers who were on routine patrol along Ladipo and Oshodi. The arrested suspects, preliminary investigations revealed, are members of Aro–Baga cult group. They include: Omuyibo Goddey (32), alias Aro Ghetto Boy; Destiny Nwanga (27), alias Aro Smiling God; and Ebuka Igwe (23), alias Aro Do or Die.

Goddey disclosed that they were about to rob their second victim when the RRS patrol team arrived on the scene.

A swift follow-up on the arrest led the RRS to their converging point at 7 Alhaji Monsuru Street, Ijegun, where two other suspects were arrested.

Investigations revealed that Nwanga repairs fuel pump at Ladipo Spare Part Market; Omuyibo works as a welder while Igwe deals in illicit drugs.

Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police, CP Abiodun Alabi fdc, mnim, psc has directed the Commander, RRS, CSP Olayinka Egbeyemi to transfer the three suspects and exhibits to the CP’s Special Squad for further investigation and prosecution.

Man bags life imprisonment for raping UNILAG student

A Lagos State Domestic Violence and Sexual Offences Court, Ikeja, on Tuesday, sentenced a man, Collins Okechukwu, to life imprisonment for raping and robbing a 25-year-old student at the University of Lagos, Akoka.

Delivering judgement, Justice Abiola Soladoye, who described Okechukwu as a pathological liar, held that the prosecution proved the charges of rape and robbery against Okechukwu beyond reasonable doubt.

The News Agency of Nigeria reported that the judge sentenced Okechukwu to life imprisonment for rape, and 21 years’ imprisonment for robbery.

She said, “The testimony of the defendant portrayed him as a pathological liar in the sense that he claimed that University of Lagos Guest House was fully booked and the survivor was sex-starved, which made them have sex on the bare floor.

“This is unbelievable and watery.

“The defendant lured the survivor into the admin block, brought out a pistol, raped her and robbed her of her valuables thereafter.

“The claim of the defendant to have met the survivor at the guest house and she agreed to have sex with him was consistently laced with irregularities and found unreliable.

“The defendant is found guilty as charged of the two offences and sentenced to life imprisonment in respect to rape and 21 years’ jail term for robbery.

“The sentences shall run concurrently.

“He should have his name entered in the Sex Offenders Register of the Lagos State Government.” PUNCH

DEPRAVED INDIFFERENCE: Police nab 23-year-old man for allegedly r3ping and k*lling his 29-year-old neighbor

Men of the Ogun State Police Command have arrested a 23-year old man, Ikenna James, for allegedly r*ping and killing his 29- year- old neighbour, Oluwatoshin Adefisayo, a graduate of Obafemi Awolowo University at their residence at Ogijo area of the state.

The state Police Public Relations Officer, Abimbola Oyeyemi, who confirmed the incident said the suspect, who lives in the same compund with the deceased, connived with his friend who is now at large and they broke into the apartment of the deceased in the night through the ceiling while she was fast asleep, r*ped her before they str*ngled her.

He said other neighbours including the parents of the suspect woke up in the morning only to discover that the apartment of the deceased had been broken into.

Oyeyemi added that the neighbours immediately invited the local vigilante to the scene, and while at the scene, Ikenna was seen coming down from the ceiling where he has been hiding after the dastardly act.

The state police spokesman said he was quickly held down while a distress call was made to the police at Ogijo divisional headquarters. The Divisional Police Officer, Ogijo, CSP Onatufeh Umoh, quickly led his men to the scene and got the suspect arrested.

During interrogation, Oyeyemi said the suspect whose partner in crime is currently on the run, confessed to committing the crime, The police PRO added that the suspect also informed the police that they decided to kill the victim after raping her because they discovered that she recognised them.

He explained that Ikenna parents who described his arrest as good radiance to bad rubbish said they have already given up on him as he is the black sheep of the family.

They also appealed to authority concerned to ensure that appropriate punishment is awarded to him.

NURTW sacks MC Oluomo as Lagos Chairman

The National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) on Wednesday sacked Musiliu Akinsanya popularly known as MC Oluomo as the Lagos chairman.

This was confirmed in a statement signed by its National President, Tajudeen Baruwa and General Secretary, Kabiru Ado Ya’u.

The union said Oluomo was sacked based on the provisions of the union’s constitution.

Part of the statement read, “MC Oluomo has been sacked as Lagos chairman. We had a meeting on Monday night and we have replaced him.

“His earlier withdrawal from the union holds no ground. That is unacceptable to us.”

Igbos are not cursed – Okorocha fires back at Pastor Tunde Bakare

A former Governor of Imo State, Rochas Okorocha, has hit back at the General Overseer of Citadel Global Community Church, formerly known as Latter Rain Assembly, Pastor Tunde Bakare, for saying Igbos cannot rule Nigeria, because they are under a curse.

Okorocha, who is now a senator representing Imo West, insisted that Igbos are an asset to the country and that they are not the problem of the country.

He stated this on Tuesday at his Unity House Campaign office in Abuja, when he was visited by the National Youth Leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Mr Dayo Israel.

In a viral video, Bakare said: “Why should anyone in this country say the Igbo man cannot be president of Nigeria? I was at Imo State and I told them the reason why the Igbo cannot rule Nigeria and I want to remove the curse today.”

However, Okorocha reacting to those comments, said: “When I listened to Bakare mention that the Igbos are cursed in the cause of his preaching, I think that is an overstatement and unwarranted preaching.

“I must state here categorically that Igbos are not cursed and they will never be cursed.”

Okorocha admitted that although Igbos may not be good politicians, they “are a great asset to this country. They are not the problem”.

Two top executives of former President Donald Trump’s Truth Social platform have reportedly tendered their resignation after the app was reportedly branded a failure.

Josh Adams and Billy Boozer, Truth Social’s chiefs of technology and product development, have left their positions less than a year after joining, two sources told Reuters on Monday.

The report of them stepping down comes shortly after some critics deemed Truth Social a failure and disaster, with hundreds of thousands of users apparently dropping off.

Adams and Boozer were key players in launching the app on February 20 and their departure could stymie its effort to compete with Twitter and other social media platforms, according to two people with knowledge on Truth Social.

‘If Josh has left… all bets are off,’ said one of the sources, referring to him as the ‘brains’ behind Truth Social’s technology.

As product chief, Boozer also played a major leadership role and managed the development, technology infrastructure and design teams.

Last week, the tech company Sensor Tower found that Truth Social had more than 870,000 downloads in its first week, but just over 60,000 installs recently.

Joshua Tucker, director of New York University’s Centre for Social Media and Politics, told the BBC that Truth Social has ‘been a disaster’.

EFCC has released Cubana Chief Priest after days in custody – Davido

Nigerian singer and music executive, David Adeleke popularly known as Davido, on Monday, announced that socialite, Cubana Chief Priest has been released from EFCC custody.

Recall that on Sunday, CorrectNG reported that the celebrity barman was arrested by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC for alleged money laundering and tax fraud.

Ghanaian actor and preacher, Majid Michel has called for marijuana to be legalized.

According to him, weed is a God-made plant and there is nothing wrong with using the substance.

Speaking with Kent Mensah on Asaase radio, Majid called on the ghanaian Government to legalise and commercialise the use of weed in the country.

“I’ve done drugs before. I’ve indulged in drugs before. I’ve done hard drugs. I don’t mean weed. I don’t see anything wrong with weed, it was God-made. It was created by God,” he stated.

Recounting how he did hard drugs years ago, the actor stated that he never saw anyone who overdozed on weed.

"I’ve never heard of anybody who has overdosed on weed… I’ve done things out of weed. I’ve done cocaine and LSD (Lysergic acid diethylamide)

"I’ve done other drugs that if I told you right now, you’ll not be able to pronounce. These were years back and I didn’t struggle to overcome it,” he said.

Majid however, advised persons below the age of 25 not to indulge in the use of the herb.

He recommended brewing and drinking weed as compared to the regular style of smoking.

"Maybe because of the smoke… maybe that’s why health-wise, it is advisable for people to brew and drink it because that is not wrong at all. You drink teas, don’t you," he said.

Despite his support for the legalization of the substance, Majid Michel urged the ghanaian government to take full responsibility before taking such steps.

"I am for it completely but then again before anything is legalized, the government must make sure that they are ready to take responsibility and must exhaust the consequences that come true with the legalization of ‘weed’ before the decision is made,"

Husband allegedly pours petrol, sets Wife, Brother-in-law on fire over marital issue

The Lagos State Police Command has arrested a 50-year-old man, Benjamin Ogudoro, who allegedly set his wife, Chinyere, and his brother-in-law, Ifeanyin Edoziem, on fire at their apartment on House 5 Oteyi community, Abule- Ado, in Amuwo Odofin Local Government Area of Lagos, at the early hours of Friday.

According to the Vanguard, forty-six years old Chinyere , who just returned from Scotland the same day, died on the spot while her brother died moments after reaching the hospital.

It was gathered that the couple had a marital crisis whose cause was unknown.

The mother of four was said to have relocated to Scotland for four years but returned to Nigeria about few hours before tragedy struck when information reached her that her husband was planning to sell the house she built in Nigeria.

On arrival at the Muritala Mohammed Airport, Ikeja, her younger brother and only son of their parents, Ifeanyin, went to pick her up from the airport.

Vanguard newspaper reported that after allegedly setting the duo on fire, the suspect placed a call to one of her sisters alerting her that their house was on fire but that he managed to escape while his wife and her brother were trapped.

But Ifeayin’s dying declaration revealed what transpired.

Groaning in excruciating pain from the burns, on the hospital bed, Ifeanyin managed to explain that ”My sister and I were sleeping when her husband came in late, banging on the door. We had a little misunderstanding as he accused me of locking him outside. I told him I didn’t that I only used the key lock and that besides, he could have opened it since he had his keys with him.

“He kept shouting that I locked him out. He insulted me and my sister. But we kept quiet. He left the room, only to return when we had fallen asleep. He poured petrol on us, lit a match, and went out.

“We were burning. I managed to escape but couldn’t save my sister. I was fortunate enough to survive”.

But his joy of survival was short-lived as he passed on moments later at the hospital.

The charred remains of Chinyere, a Master’s degree holder from a United Kingdom University, were evacuated by a team of policemen from the Trade Fair division, who were alerted by private guards at Oteyi community, zone 7.

Police sources hinted that fleeing Ogudoro had been arrested.

The Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Benjamin Hundeyin confirmed the arrest. He said that the suspect had been transferred to the State Criminal Investigations Department, SCID, Yaba, on the directive of the Commissioner of Police, CP Abiodun Alabi, for further investigation, adding that the corpses had been deposited at the Mainland Hospital mortuary, Yaba, for autopsy.

A tricyclist was on Sunday set ablaze by an irate mob in Onitsha, Anambra State.

The Keke Napep operator was reportedly trying to rob some people at the place alongside four young men when the mob pounced on him.

Residents within the area alleged that the Keke Operator and the four young men are the suspected armed robbers that has been terrorising the residents and passengers on the Onitsha Army Barracks/Upper Iweka/Borromew round-about axis, along the Asaba/Onitsha/Enugu Expressway in the state.

An eyewitness, who simply identified herself as Rose said, “The robbers stopped their Keke to rob some people who were waiting to board vehicles.

“They were about four of them but the one that was driving the Keke was the one that was arrested and set ablaze by some angry youths who saw what was happening and pursued the robbers and three others escaped abandoning their Keke driver.”

“The Keke driver could not run because he was a tall, fat man and elderly in appearance. So they set him ablaze with fuel and fairly used tyres even as he was shouting that he was not an armed robber.”

While the mob was setting the suspected robber ablaze, some tricycle operators stormed the scene and pleaded to the angry mob not to set him ablaze.

One of the tricyclists said: “We know him, he is not an armed robber, we believe he was forced at gun-point by the three-man armed robbers that escaped unhurt, when they flagged him down pretending to be passengers unknown to him, to take them to that market.

“It was under duress that they held him, but as the two men came out from the Keke to rob, unfortunately for them they were pursued by passers-by who saw what was happening and the three robbers ran away abandoning the tricycle driver.”

According to reports, the burnt corpse of the tricycle operator is still lying at the scene of the incident begging for evacuation.

When contacted, the state police spokesman, Ikenga Tochukwu, said he was not aware of the incident as “the information had not got to him.”

The incident happened a week after the wedding as the suspect was in possession of the house keys of the couple.

Speaking on the incident, the vigilante commander of Gaida, Shekarau Ali, said the groom reported the case and they arrested the suspect after an investigation.

According to him, the suspect got the keys from the relatives of the bride with the claim that he was going to hand them over to the groom.

He further said, “The groom asked for the return of the keys but he refused. When he saw that the couple had gone out of the house, he opened the house and stole the wedding boxes (gifts) and food items.”

He added that they are investigating him and will subsequently hand him over to the police.

Meanwhile, the suspect confessed to the crime, saying it was the devil that made him betray his friend and pleaded forgiveness.

However, the suspect said he contributed towards the wedding by spending more than N400,000 for the groom.

27-year-old Man allegedly machetes his biological Father to death

A 27-year-old man, Ibrahim Sikiru, has been arrested by security operatives in Ogun State for allegedly killing his biological father, Mumuni Ibrahim.

The suspect was arrested following a complaint lodged at the Onipanu divisional headquarters by one Abiodun Sunday, identified as a neighbour to the deceased.

The complainant reportedly told the police that the victim, who was a security guard, had returned home in the morning and met his son, sleeping.

The father reportedly questioned the son why he was still in bed at that hour of the day.

The son was said to have become upset, as he grabbed a machete and hacked his father on different parts of the body.

The police spokesman, Abimbola Oyeyemi, told journalists on Saturday in Abeokuta that following the report, the DPO of Onipanu division, CSP Bamidele Job, quickly mobilized his men and moved to the scene where the suspect was arrested.

He said the team equally rushed the victim to a general hospital for treatment but later passed on.

Oyeyemi said the police “strongly suspect” the son to be a cultist, saying he “has no reasonable explanation for his action when interrogated.”

Oyeyemi quoted the Commissioner of Police, Lanre Bankole, to have ordered the immediate transfer of the suspect to the homicide section of the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department for further investigation and diligent prosecution.

Man kills his one month old baby, sets house on fire with Wife inside

Operatives of the Lagos Police Command have arrested a man for allegedly smashing his one-month-old daughter to death.

The suspect, Benedict Anieze, allegedly smashed the baby in a fit of anger at their 5, Pipeline Road, Idimu residence, following a disagreement with his teenage wife, Promise Okon.

He was alleged to have also set their house ablaze with the dead baby and his weeping wife inside.

The timely intervention of neighbours who rushed to rescue the woman, said to have had a C-Section, saved her from being consumed by the inferno.

The woman was subsequently taken to the police station where she narrated what transpired between them and how her husband suddenly smashed their baby before setting fire on their home.

Police sources said the suspect who confessed to the crime, claimed he was possessed by evil spirit to do it.

Confirming the incident, police spokesperson, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, said the command was treating the matter as a case of murder and arson.

He said: “The suspect has been arrested and would be transferred to the State Criminal and Investigation Department (SCID), Panti, Yaba, on Tuesday.”

Police Inspector dies during sex romp with his lover in Ibadan hotel

According to a source at the hotel, the 47-year-old man died around 3PM on Sunday, April 3, shortly after he paid for a short-time with his lover at a hotel situated at Oke-Ado area of Ibadan.

Speaking with Vanguard, the witness said,

“They met me at the staircase but being one of the workers, I cannot be looking at their faces, so I just ignored them. A few minutes later, the woman rushed down and started crying, saying the man was unconscious.

“We quickly informed the police at Iyaganku Police Division and they came around quickly but before they would take him to a nearby hospital, he had given up the ghost.”

While some people claim he died due to the energy booster he ingested to have sex with the woman, others claim he died as a result of the thunderbolt laced on the woman by another man.

However, one of the hotel attendant said, “I don’t know her but the way she was talking after the incident, she had lost her husband in 2014. She even said the late officer was responsible for the payment of her children’s school fees for more than five years and other house chores.”

Her heartbroken mum, Clair, 44, said her daughter struggled with social anxiety and pinned the blame on social media.

She told the Newcastle Chronicle: “I blame social media a lot for what has happened. The impact it has, especially on younger people, can be devastating. Social media took over Chloe’s life – whether that be Snapchat or Facebook.

“She struggled socially from being at school so she didn’t work. Social media was her way of getting through the day. She didn’t go out a lot.

Pastor Enoch Adeboye, the General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, has explained why he doesn’t vote, saying voting would be an injustice to the rest of his political children.

Adeboye who urged his congregation to participate by registering in any party of their choice, and ensure that their votes are counted, said he is not a politician but one whose assignment is to pray for his country and his children.

He disclosed this on Sunday, shortly before preaching on the topic Waiting without wasting, during his monthly telecast monitored by the punch.

Adeboye said, “My assignment has nothing to do with partisan politics. I have never told you the candidate to vote or party to belong to because every party is heavily represented here. The only reason I have never voted is that if I vote for anyone I will be unjust to the rest of my children and I’m the father of all.

“You are first a Nigerian before a member of a party; you have a duty to register, vote, and make sure your vote counts, you have a duty to belong to a party. You can’t refuse to vote and begin to complain about the government.

The General Overseer continued saying, “Wait to make sure they count your vote make sure there is no more rigging, I don’t care who or party that you vote.”

Adeboye stressed that prayer plays a pivotal role in ensuring that the country got it right.

“This year I asked for 1000 people to join me in praying for the country but I got 26,000 we prayed and whether or not you believe it God heard and has answered us,” Adeboye said.

According to him, I’m still unsure whether there would be 2023 general elections. There are myriads of issues that are of interest to God concerning the country than to be fixed on an activity that is scheduled in about a year.

He said, “Talking about myself as I’m standing before you, I still don’t know whether or not there will be election next year (2023). The last time there was an election God spoke to me in June, I don’t know yet.”

He lamented the security challenges bedeviling Kaduna State and the financial issues of the country, warning that the generation unborn may bear the consequences if not tackled.

“You can’t go to Kaduna by road or airplane (airport) because you may be attacked; why Kaduna, is working to isolate Kaduna. From reports, more than 80 percent of our crude oil is being stolen, who is stealing the oil, and where is the money going? What will they want to do with the money? What are the foreign nations buying the oil?

“More than 90 percent of our income is used to pay interest of the money we have borrowed, we are borrowing more, we are moving steadily to bankruptcy, and your children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren will be paying debt,” Adeboye said.

He revealed that he would continue to pray for politicians, noting that he has a single prayer point for them when they come for intercession.

Adeboye added, “I will pray and I have only one prayer point for everyone; father let your perfect will for this fellow be done.”

Putin Is Fighting For Christian Values And Against Same-Sex Marriage - Ukraine-Based Nigerian Cleric Reveals

Pastor Sunday Adelaja, the founder of the largest evangelical church in Europe, Embassy of the Blessed Kingdom of God for All Nations, has said Putin is fighting to protect the traditional values of the Christian faith.

He said he lost property worth over $4 million to the Russian invasion of Ukraine.

He added that in his bid to avoid being caught up in the war, he had to leave the country with only one shirt.

Speaking via a Zoom meeting organised by Network of African Christian Journalists, the pastor adviced people to avoid misrepresenting Putin, saying the man is fighting for traditional values of the Christian faith.

The Nigerian-born preacher, who lived in Kiev, Ukraine, for some decades, said: "I’m beginning to believe that this Vladimir Putin who everybody is saying is mad and demon-possessed is the same man that is fighting for traditional values of the Christian faith.

"He is saying Christianity and satanism are not equal.

"He is against homosexuals, saying same-sex marriage is wrong.

"What is happening in Ukraine right now is pathetic and very unfortunate.

"Lives are being lost.

"My house, which is worth about $4 million, was burnt.

"I left the country only in one shirt."

Adelaja also said the Russia invasion may lead to Third World War except urgent measures are taken. He added that God may use the war to glorify his name.

He said: "There is nothing I need from Nigeria Christians but what I want them to realise is that this invasion may escalate and lead to the Third World War whereby Russia will be ready to use nuclear weapons.

"Let us all pray against this.

"It could lead to war that may dictate how the world will be ruled.

"War is destructive, damaging, traumatising.

"I believe that this war is the judgment of God upon Ukraine, the attacker and the attacked, the victim and the aggressor are being judged.

"There is no way one can deny the fact that this is God’s judgment.

"God may use this to glorify His name."

A Nigerian politician has revealed that God told her that she will be the first female president of Nigeria in 2023.

Angela Johnson, an aspirant of the All Progressive Grand Alliance APGA made the revelation in a recent interview.

She declared that “2023 is the time for Nigeria to have the first female President”.

According to her, the time has come for Nigeria to be fixed by women since the male folks in power have disappointed the nation.

“I am being led by God to restore the hope of millions of Nigerians, who have become hopeless in the Nigerian project. God brought President Muhammadu Buhari and sustained him in office that I shall emerge.

“God spoke to me, and I heard him clearly. He sent me to be President, not the Vice President. This is my time. This is the time for Nigerian women to produce the nation’s president. There is a burning desire in me, and until Nigeria’s lost glory is restored, I cannot rest”.

The Arochukwu, Abia State-born Uk-based preacher, disclosed this when she visited the secretariat of APGA in Umuahia to solicit the support of the party leadership for her presidential ambition.

She promised to make all roads across the country motorable within three months if voted into power.

Johnson said male politicians in the country had failed woefully as they had converted their positions in government as an opportunity to amass wealth instead of rendering selfless service to the people.

“Our men, who were elected into leadership positions in the country, have failed us. Although they were elected to serve, they end up being served by the people that elected them,” she explained.

She promised to fight insecurity digitally with modern technologies as obtained in the Western world, blaming the persistence of Boko Haram and other terrorist groups in the country on the use of analogue measures to confront them.

The presidential hopeful who said she had zero tolerance for corruption, promised to frontally confront corruption.

On the menacing activities of herdsmen, Johnson said she would not only encourage but equity State and regional policing to complement the efforts of the federal government in eliminating crime.

” I will encourage the formation of vigilante groups across communities. I will equip them with modern technologies. I will use drones to fight insecurity”, she promised.

” I have all it takes to be Nigeria’s President. I have gone through the world preaching the gospel and fixing families. I can fix this country if given the opportunity”, she declared.

She encouraged women to come out of their shells and take over from men, saying that women have the population to determine who rules the country.

In a remark, the Chairman of APGA, in Abia State, Rev. Augustine Ehiemere, said the aspirant ” is competent and prepared to be President”, and called on women to give her massive support.

EFCC Arrests Cubana Chief Priest Over Alleged Money Laundering, Tax Fraud

Nigeria's foremost anti-graft agency, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission has arrested Nigerian socialite, Pascal Okechukwu aka Cubana Chief Priest, on charges bordering on money laundering and tax fraud, according to Peoples Gazette.

He was arrested at the Lagos Airport on Thursday, but anti-graft officials hushed the development amidst pressure from his associates and family, who said the matter could complicate conditions for others likely connected to the alleged racket.

Okechukwu’s arrest has made it impossible for him to return birthday greetings from his nearly four million Instagram followers, with only his wife being permitted to see him in custody.

“The matter is still under investigation,” Peoples Gazette quoted a source as saying.

His arrest came weeks after he called on the anti-graft agency to free Obinna Iyiegbu, also known as Obi Cubana, adding that Igbos were used to the EFCC treatment.

EFCC had also arrested Obi Cubana over allegations of money laundering and tax fraud.

Pastor Enoch Adeboye, the General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, says he doesn’t know whether there will be an election in 2023 yet.

He said God spoke to him about the 2019 elections more than a year to the election but the case has not been so with the 2023 election.

The cleric said he is more concerned about Kaduna killings, oil theft, Nigeria’s depressing debt profile and other current national challenges.

Adeboye also said politics is not his calling and he will never be a politician.

He stressed that he does not support any presidential aspirant ahead of the 2023 general elections.

The octogenarian preacher said this on Sunday at the monthly Thanksgiving Service of the Church.

Adeboye said the clarification was important amid the criticisms against the church’s creation of a Politics Directorate and the instruction to members to be politically involved in the 2023 electioneering process.

My teacher drove me to hotel, raped me, threatened to kill me – 15-year-old student

A 15-year-old student of Government Technical College, Ikorodu (name withheld) has revealed how one of her teachers, Adefemi Adewunmi, allegedly raped her in a hotel in their area and threatened to kill her if she told anyone.

This is just as a woman, Mrs Happiness John, on Thursday, lodged a complaint against her husband, Uwenzi John, at the Ikorodu Police division, for allegedly having carnal knowledge of her 14-year-old sister, between November 2021 and February 2022.

The 15-year-old student who lives in Lowa community in Ikorodu, as gathered, was on her way to school on Monday, when her teacher who was driving in his car offered to give her a ride to school.

But he allegedly detoured and took her to an undisclosed hotel in Ikorodu where he allegedly forced his way into her.

She was said to have opened up to her mother, who subsequently reported the case at the Ikorodu division, consequent upon which the Divisional Police Officer ordered for the arrest of the father of one.

Explaining, the 15-year-old girl said: “I didn’t know where he was going until we reached the hotel in Ikorodu. He forced his way into me and said he would kill me if I tell anyone.”

The survivor was said to have been taken to Italewa Health Care centre for treatment.

In a related development, policemen at Ikorodu , have arrested 38-year-old Uwenzi John, for allegedly molesting his 14-year-old sister in-law sexually, in his Ikorodu apartment.

The arrest of the father of three from Ebonyi State, followed a complaint lodged by his wife, Happiness , that her husband had been sleeping with her sister since November last year and February 2022.

It was gathered that the bubble burst after the teenager who claimed she could no longer stand the sexual molestation from the mechanical technician, confided in her sister.

Spokesman for the Lagos State Police Command, SP Benjamin Hundeyin confirmed both arrests. He said investigation was still ongoing, adding that the cases had been transferred to the Gender Officer at the Command headquarters for further investigation. (Vanguard)

Police under fire for persecution of 21-year-old Gloria Okolie

Human Rights Writers Association of Nigeria (HURIWA) on Saturday, slammed the Nigeria Police Force for its continuous persecution of 21-year-old Gloria Okolie, who was erroneously arrested for allegedly being a spy for the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB).

HURIWA, in a statement by its National Coordinator, Comrade Emmanuel Onwubiko, lambasted the Inspector General of Police, Usman Baba, over the rearrest of the young lady despite a Federal High Court sitting in Abuja granting her bail and she had perfected its conditions.

The 21-year-old was released in March after being detained for nine months since June 17, 2021, by the police for allegedly being a spy for IPOB’s Eastern Security Network, an allegation that has been proven false.

Okolie was earlier detained at the Intelligence Response Team office in Owerri, Imo State, before she was transferred to Abuja and subjected to dehumanising treatment including being turned to a maid, washing and cooking in detention, amongst other rights violation, as said by an activist, Harrison Gwamnishu.

The activist also published cash transaction slips of N220,000 allegedly collected by the policemen from Okolie’s relations for her release but she was held back and her rights contravened.

A Federal High Court sitting in Abuja on November 23, 2021, had granted bail to Okolie in the sum of N10 million with two sureties and she had perfected the bail conditions but the police didn’t release her till March.

To the shock of many observers, Okolie was rearrested days after her release from the Suleja correctional centre in Niger State in March after about nine months in detention. According to reports, Okolie was rearrested by the Imo State Police Command when she went to a bank in Owerri to withdraw some of her money.

Reacting to the continuous violation of Okolie’s rights and the gross disregard for court orders by operatives of the Nigeria Police Force, HURIWA’s Onwubiko asked all persons of conscience and gender advocates to rise and defend the innocent young lady persecuted by the police for no justifiable reason.

Onwubiko said, “The continuous mistreatment, enslavement, imprisonment of Gloria Okolie has become unbecoming and should stop forthwith.

“It is worrisome that the police in its characteristic manner again shunned a Federal High Court order of November 23, 2021 granting Okolie bail but the overzealous and lawless policemen under IGP Usman Baba went ahead to rearrest Okolie who was granted bail by the court.

“The illegality of the action of the police is glaring in Section 36 (5) of the Nigerian Constitution that states that every person who is charged with a criminal offence shall be presumed to be innocent until he is proved guilty.

“The penchant of the police for gross violations of the human rights of innocent Nigerians such as Okolie must be condemned as reprehensible and despicable by men and women of good conscience. It is no longer news that the brutality and extrajudicial killings of citizens by the police, especially the men of the IRT formerly under detained head of the team, Abba Kyari, who was notorious for rights violation, instigated the #EndSARS protests in October 2020.

“HURIWA recalled that judicial panels of inquiry awarded multibillion-naira compensation bills of the over 2,500 victims of police brutality against the NPF but till date a chunk of this money have not been paid to the victims.

“HURIWA further calls on the National Human Rights Commission as well as rights organisations to rise up and defend the right of Okolie grossly and flagrantly violated by the police and many other young women suffering police brutality and dehumanisation. The persecution of Okolie must stop immediately.

“The violation of citizens’ right must also stop. The IGP should warn his men. Nigeria is not a Banana Republic but a Federation founded on the Rule of Law and the tenets of democratic values.”

This is the jaw-dropping moment a judo fighter pinned down a thief in a choke hold after he snatched her phone on the street.

The suspected thief is believed to have snatched the woman's phone from her hand while she was waiting for a cab in the city of Manaus in the Brazilian state of Amazonas on March 24

After grabbing her phone, the thief legged it down the street but the fighter chased after him and pinned him down.

The woman, who practises judo, was able to detain the suspect on the ground with a martial arts rear choke hold, according to local media.

She held the suspect at the scene until officers arrived to take him to the police station.

In the video, she is seen sitting calmly on the ground while holding the topless suspect in a neck lock.

The woman, whose name has not been released, was filmed detaining the suspected thief on the ground

The suspect is then handcuffed and the woman shoves him away from her in disgust and gets to her feet as onlookers clap and cheer.

An onlooker appears kicks the suspect as he lies on his front on the tarmac.

There have been no further updates on the investigation.

Leites, a white belt in the mixed martial arts sport, decided to defend herself since four cell phones had already been stolen in home invasions, according to Brazilian news outlet D24AM .

Meanwhile, Legit.ng previously reported that a Nigerian woman had shared how her daughter kidnapped and taken to Mali miraculously escaped.

Favour's mum said she got a phone call one day to inform her that her daughter was in Mali. This was a huge shock to her because the young lady went to school but failed to make it back home.

According to the woman, the kidnappers demanded the sum of N1.5 million for Favour to be released. She however said she had no way of raising such an amount.
